Living Earth organises fourth visit in the Aberdeen-Alaska school exchange programme...

Five teachers from Aberdeenshire, Scotland visited the North Slope, Alaska from 1st to 9th November 2008 as part of Living Earth's ongoing Polars Pairs School Exchange programme. The programme seeks to foster links between schools and their wider communities in North Slope, Alaska and Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The teachers involved were invited to visit local schools, exploring the differences between their school systems and developing new classroom ideas. Living Earth runs an SD training course in Korsakov, Sakhalin Island...

On 31st October and 1st November 2008 Living Earth, working in partnership with the Sustainable Development Department of Sakhalin State University, facilitated a two day residential training course on 'Involving People in Community Groups'. The course represented the latest module in Living Earth's ongoing training course in the region: 'An Introduction to Sustainable Development'. Find out more about this training programme here.

Living Earth facilitates IUCN workshop...

Living Earth facilitated a workshop entitled "Social License to Operate" at this year's IUCN World Conservation Conference. The conference took place in Barcelona from 5th to 14th October 2008 and brought together participants from both the corporate and the charitable sector. Living Earth's workshop explored the challenges and opportunities involved in engaging local stakeholders in corporate projects in Latin America. For details of the workshop please click here

Living Earth features in MDG review publication...

Living Earth has written an article for the latest edition of the Millennium Development Goals review, an independent publication that was circulated at the recent high-level UN summit on the Millennium Development Goals. The article Global Partnerships and the MDGs discusses the nature of Living Earth's strategic partnership with Shell and highlights the importance of cross-sector partnerships in achieving sustainable development. An indigenous language visit to the UK...

As part of Living Earth's ongoing work in Alaska, in June 2008 we organised a tour of indigenous language programmes in the UK for three education professionals from the North Slopes of Alaska. Led by Jana Hacharek of the North Slope Borough School District, the trip included a four day programme hosted by the University of Wales followed by three days at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Gaelic college in Scotland. Aberdeenshire schools welcome teachers from North Slope, Alaska...

Living Earth facilitated the third visit in the Polars Pairs School Exchange programme. between Aberdeenshire and North Slope Alaska. From 20th May to 30th May 2008, five teachers from schools on the North Slope, Alaska, paid a visit to local Aberdeenshire schools where they participated in school activities and gained an exciting insight into Scottish educational practices. Living Earth Uganda organises a National Conference on Urban Environment...

On 21st and 22nd April 2008, Living Earth Uganda organised a National Conference on Urban Environment in Kampala. Over 90 delegates attended the event which had the theme: "Enabling Urban Poor to realize their potential through partnerships". Living Earth speak at Conference on "Business and Biodiversity" in Bonn, Germany...

The environmental foundation Global Nature Fund (GNF) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH hosted the international conference; 'Business and Biodiversity”, which took place in Bonn, Germany on April 2 and 3, 2008. Around 200 participants from the business sector, research institutes, NGOs and governmental authorities attended this two day conference. Day one explored business opportunities and business risks related to the use and conservation of natural resources and biodiversity. Day two focused on tools and practical examples in relation to the implementation of corporate biodiversity management. Living Earth provides input to the Shell Sustainability Report 2007...

For the third successive year Living Earth's Roger Hammond has been a member of the external review committee of the Shell Sustainability Report. Roger Hammond was one of six individuals who reviewed this year's report in terms of whether it contains the right information about the full range of issues that Shell stakeholders care most about and secondly on how well it reflects understanding of stakeholders’ expectations. Living Earth organises Business and Biodiversity Workshop for the Latin American Congress on Natural Protected Areas...

Living Earth Foundation in association with Fundacion Habitat & Desarrollo organised a workshop on ‘The Role of the Business Sector on the Biodiversity Agenda of the Region’ at the Latin American Congress on Natural Protected Areas in Bariloche (Patagonia Argentina) in September 2007. Bariloche (Patagonia Argentina) The aim was to promote the strengthening of natural protected areas through complementing business projects with the conservation needs of the Region. The Workshop had the support of Repsol YPF, Banco Galicia and the British Argentine Chamber of Commerce BACC

Launch of Good Practice Guidance for Mining and Biodiversity...

The Good Practice Guidance for Mining and Biodiversity has been published as part of an extensive dialogue between International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) and the World Conservation Union (IUCN). The guide provides an informative, accessible and highly practical reference source on biodiversity which can be used by mining companies at all stages of their operations, from initial exploration to mine closure planning and implementation. Living Earth Foundation and the ICMM organised an event to launch this publication at the IUCN Latin American Congress on Natural Protected Areas in the Hotel Panamericano – Salón Guardería, Bariloche - Argentina View the Press Release here

BBC Sport visits Living Earth Uganda projects...

On 3rd July 2007, Living Earth Uganda hosted a team from Comic Relief (UK) and presenters and producers from BBC Sports, including ex-footballer Les Ferdinand. They came to visit the Comic Relief-funded Urban Livelihoods Project (ULP). The visit was in preparation for Sports Relief, which is one of Comic Relief's major fundraising efforts. The group visited three of Living Earth’s local project partners: Gayaza Joint Association (GAJOA);  Nansana Twezimbe Group (NTG) and Saving Energy Saving Stove Africa (SESSA) in Lweza. © Living Earth Foundation Find out more about the visit and the Urban Livelihoods Project here

Living Earth welcomes visitors from Sakhalin Island...

“I didn’t really think that it was possible for oil and gas companies to cooperate with local government and universities to improve the quality of life of communities; now I know that it can happen..” Local government official of Sakhalin From Sunday 13th May to Wednesday 23rd May 2007, twelve visitors from Sakhalin Island (Russia) visited the UK, on a learning visit organised and coordinated by the Living Earth Foundation. LEF submits paper to the Conference on Sustainable Development at Sakhalin State University...

Living Earth were asked to write a paper entitled 'Putting Sustainable Development into Practice: Emerging Lessons from the Field' for the interregional conference on the 'Problems of Sustainable Development of the Region at the Current Stage, held at Sakhalin State University (SSU), between 5th -7th June 2007. The paper was distributed to all the delegates for discussion during the conference.
