Improving Disease Detection and Therapy
Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a disease characterized by fat infiltration and inflammation of the liver and is linked to obesity, metabolic disease and various drug treatments. The prevalence of NASH has increased in parallel with that of metabolic disease, and currently 60 million people in the U.S. are at risk for developing the disease. The current clinical diagnosis for NASH includes liver biopsy, an invasive procedure associated with risk of severe complications.
In collaboration with leading pharmaceutical and academic research teams, Lipomics has identified several mechanism-specific markers of fat accumulation in the liver, two of which are under going validation in clinical trials as plasma based diagnostics for steatosis (LT-07) and NASH (LT-24). These simple blood tests for liver fat accumulation will be used to screen at-risk individuals, enable clinicians to guide early treatment, and is one of many ways that Lipomics is improving disease detection and therapy.
