This site outlines my main interests including my CV and details of my research. In brief - I received my B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Electronics from the University of Salford, UK in 1984. I have been a senior member of staff within the Medical Engineering Department, Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester, UK, since 1987 and am currently employed as a Principal Clinical Scientist. In 1994 I started collaborating with the University Department of Surgery (Manchester University) and the Gastro-Intestinal Investigation at the Manchester Royal Infirmary. I received my M.Sc. from the University of Manchester in 1996 and completed my Ph.D. in the development and analysis of oesophageal fluoromanometry (2000). I am a member of the IET and a Chartered Engineer and Registered Clinical Scientist. I am also member of the IEEE and its affiliated organization the EMBS (Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society). My main scientific interests include the identification and detection of patterns in complex data. Complexity in physiology, modelling of physiological systems, scientific visualisation and the application of neural networks, signal processing and statistics to medical, biological and other problems.
