Prof. Patrick Segers, prof. Pascal Verdonck and prof. Benedict Verhegghe welcome you at the website of the Cardiovascular Mechanics and Biofluid Dynamics Research Unit. Our team is an offspring of the Hydraulics Laboratory from which it originated, shifting from the study of water and sediments in pipes, rivers and canals to the study of flow and transport processes in blood and biological fluids in the cardiovascular system and artificial organs. In the past few years, our scope and expertise has broadened to biomechanical aspects of the cardiovascular and also the skeleto-muscular system. Since 2007 the group physically moved from the Hydraulics Laboratory to the Institute Biomedical Technology (IBiTech) housed on the top floor of the Heymans Building (blok B) at the campus of the Ghent University Hospital.
